Four intrepid Hants VWOC members took on a 1250 mile round trip to the Hessisch Show in Northern Germany.
Joint owners, Dave, John and Trev gave ace photographer Roger a lift to the show in their 1963 Brazilian 8 seater Kombi.
The route was first to Dover to catch the ferry and then on to Antwerp where they joined The BBT Convoy of 120 vintage VWs.
The multi-national convoy clogged autoroute and autobahn for the next 250 miles to the beautiful town of Hessisch Oldendorf.

The thing with driving vintage machinery is that no matter how well its running you always feel obliged to check at every stop to see if the engine is still there. Dover...yep, still there.

Light refreshment on the way. Trev, Dave and John wash down a healthy option with a less healthy option. The tunnel under the river in Antwerp saved us hours on a grid-locked autoroute. More time to soak up The BBT hospitality and drool over Bob's fantastic VW and Porsche collection.

More locals abroad; HVWOC man Martin Jewell joins the discussions....

...and another, Anna Slydell had made her way to Antwerp with Julian Hunt to join the convoy.

When you get to our age, rabbit food figures prominently in your diet...careful with the Cholesterol count. Dave and the Kombi rest at our overnight motel.

Back to The BBT H.Q. in the morning for the start of the convoy. Bob led the show in his beautiful and extremely rare Denzel Roadster.

Plenty of stops along the way to let the pedal-cars catch up. We were well to the fore I hasten to add.

Following a British Hebmuller. Anna and Julian queue for the pre-booked show registration.

I know nothing about non VW military vehicles so I can't tell you what it is. We were going to camp for two nights but barely lasted the one. We quickly found a nice guest house when we realised that none of us actually liked camping. Oooo a Barndoor Single Cab!

Hey don't I know you? Yes Hampshire man Robin Allen is a big supporter of The Hessisch Shows.

This is where the HVWOC group spent most of the weekend, the town square cafe. Third picture from the left shows Julian spinning my newly restored Judson Supercharger only for it to deposit a very embarrassing oil stain on his trousers...ooops

Rikki seems very relaxed for someone who had to be back at work 8 hours later...it's a long drive. Dave shows his usual appreciation of Roger's photographic skills.
